Collingwood Mayor Sandra Cooper, Councillor Kevin Lloyd, Wasaga Beach Mayor/ Simcoe County Warden Cal Patterson, Clearview Township Mayor Ken Ferguson, Blue Mountains Mayor Ellen Anderson along with councillors Gail Ardiel and Michael Martin, welcomed new physician residents from the Rural Ontario Medical Program to Collingwood recently for a gathering at the Beild House.
"We are extremely appreciative of your sponsorship toward the event. Your ongoing support of Medical Education in our Region does not go unnoticed" said Rural Ontario Medical Program Executive Director Dr. Peter Wells. "Thank you very much for taking the time to meet and greet with our new local residents! They were excited and thankful for the opportunity to have met you."
The Rural Ontario Medical Program (ROMP) was created by Collingwood physician, Dr. Peter Wells, in 1988. Evolving from a conversation between him and the Medical Staff Coordinator at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, a need was recognized for a program that provided medical training in rural communities.
The ROMP office has expanded over the years; many employees who work in different facets of the rotation process and office function. The success of the Rural Ontario Medical Program resounds through our boarders as medical trainees return to their rotation sites throughout their education and as new physicians.
