Collingwood is a Premier Ranked Tourist Destination located on the southern shore of Georgian Bay, minutes away from Ontario's highest ski hills at Blue Mountain. Collingwood is situated in the heart of one of Ontario's most attractive year-round recreation and tourist destinations.

In the year 2000, the area was the topic of a study conducted by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism. The study, completed in 2001 by Malone Give Parsons Limited, took in an area bordered by the south shore of Georgian Bay between Owen Sound and Waubashene, the major expressions of the Niagara Escarpment and the Beaver Valley.
