THEATRE COLLINGWOOD

Incorporated in 1984 as a not-for-profit theatre company with charitable status, Theatre Collingwood has blossomed during the past decade under the artistic leadership of Steven Thomas into a fully professional producing company which explores outstanding 20th Century literature. Of note, the company has produced five world premieres of new Canadian plays in the past six years.

Theatre Collingwood is not about bricks and mortar: it is a creative, theatrically passionate producing organiation which plays a significant role in the community. Unique provincially marketed packaging initiatives with accommodations and restaurants have attracted an increasing number of cultural tourists to the region. Last year alone, nearly 10,000 theatregoers were entertained in historic downtown Collingwood.

Each year, Theatre Collingwood generates over $1 million and more than 22 person-years of new employment to the local economy through goods and services spending related to production and operations.

Equally committed to youth, outreach programs include: family programming, half price and eyeGo discount tickets, co-operative training positions for students pursuing a theatre career, summer production placements and awards to graduating students.

Governed by a dedicated business-minded Board of Directors, approximately 100 additional volunteers contribute their time yearly to annually with ushering and fund-raising events. Donations from members and corporate citizens lend financial support to keep ticket prices affordable.

THE ELVIS FESTIVAL

Every year at the end of July, Collingwood's streets are shut down, parking lots are closed off and residents prepare for the year's biggest party.

The Collingwood Elvis Festival is one of the largest meeting points for Elvis fans and tribute artists alike. Each year hundreds of thousands flood Collingwood and surrounding areas to immerse themselves in Elvis music, movies and paraphernalia. Multiple stages are set up, some for families, others located in beer tents, all of them featuring tributes to the late, great Elvis Presley.
