Medical/Health Sector

Final Report - July 2008

Significant Findings

The following general or overall conclusions can be reached by considering the survey results in the Medical/Health sector:

• Collingwood has been identified as having a healthy, stable Medical/Health base which shows potential for growth and expansion, adding to our workforce over the coming years

• he most pressing growth issue is the continued successful attraction and retention of skilled practitioners, specialists and support staff

• inadequate inventory of affordable commercial space was identified as a barrier to local Medical/Health expansion

• continued support from Town Council for the Physicians Attraction and Retention Committee and its mandate, plus other health care providers including the Family Health Team, ROMP, the Hospital, nursing home providers

• ensure the G&M Hospital grows along with the community it serves and provides the services necessary for a healthy community

• challenges facing G&M hospital should be addressed through improved communication between stakeholders

• quality of life

“An efficient way to keep health costs down is to make sure Canadians are working in well-paid jobs and have sufficient incomes, especially into their retirement years. Given the demands on our health care budget that an aging population will make, sensible economic development and social policies are more urgently needed than ever before.”
