Business Retention and Expansion Study for Collingwood's
Medical/Health Sector
Final Report - July 2008
Purpose Of Study
For Collingwood, the BR+E will encourage our local businesses including the Medical/Health sector to work together with the objective of enhancing job creation and economic prosperity, while encouraging the growth and stability of local business. The BR+E program will assist Collingwood’s community leaders to identify barriers facing local businesses as they try to survive and grow.
Developing business and creating jobs are central to the health and vitality of any community, but in a time when most new jobs come from existing businesses, it is critical for Collingwood to present a welcoming business environment.
With the help of local and OMAFRA experts, the Collingwood Economic Development is surveying each of the six employment sectors independently and analyzing the results in separate reports. The reports provide valuable information and ideas to invigorate our local economy.
BR+E survey results will provide a valuable benchmark for the Medical/Health sector in Collingwood’s community. Ultimately, these results will tie in with findings yet to be determined in the remaining two sectors to be completed over the next few months.
The overall findings will create a confidential, comprehensive data profile of business operations in the community where we next develop a systematic approach to retention and expansion.
Re-studies of all sectors will serve as benchmarks, indicating how economic changes have impacted the business community, determining current needs and plans, and verifying past situations that have been corrected. The local economic indicators will enable the community to develop targeted marketing and retention programs in addition to identifying areas where expansion and retention efforts should be improved.
The overall findings will determine how Collingwood can create a better environment for local businesses to succeed.
