Overall Findings
FINANCIAL IMPACT ON MUNICIPALITY
Of the knowledge base businesses that participated in the BR+E Study, 81% supplied some information relative to employment. Of the 30% of the respondents who provided information, this sector injects almost $20,000,000 annually back into the community through employment dollars, creating a significant retail pull effect for other businesses.
This sector identified housing as a municipal issue, caused by the downloading from higher tier government and the changing demographics of the community. Consequently many employees are shut out from purchasing a home within Collingwood. Similarly to the manufacturing sector, the knowledge base sector express concern the current sale and rental markets are geared to a higher than average income and/or retirement market .
