Business Retention and Expansion Study for Collingwood's Industrial/Employment Sector
Overall Findings
Risk of Closure/Downsizing/Relocation
Results indicate 50% of the executives interviewed have plans to expand the business in Collingwood. Additionally, 50% reported investigating the relocation of all or part of their operation to another part of Ontario due to inadequate facilities including an insufficient supply of serviced industrial land or building space and expansion limitations at their current sites.
Of the 50% of businesses planning to move to another part of Ontario, 50% of those industry executives reported that changes to the local tax structure could prevent such relocation.
Identified as a red flag, are several industries, each having more than 100 employees representing skilled and unskilled labour, and who reported lobby campaigns and attempts by other communities to relocate. Economic Development is working with these industries to retain and grow their businesses in Collingwood.
